From Mustapha Isah Kwaru, Maidiguri
The Borno House of Assembly yesterday removed its Leader, Alhaji Idrissa Jidda for alledged gross misconduct.
Jidda had last month granted a media interview in which he claimed that the entire membership had resolved to join the PDP in support of former governor, Ali Modu Sheriff.
Member representing Biu Constituency, Alhaji Ali Mamman, raised the motion for the impeachment of Jidda shortly after the house resumed its sitting in Maiduguri.
Mamman particularly drew the attention of the Assembly to a media statement credited to the former leader, arguing that the entire members of the house had resolved to decamp from the ruling All Progrossives Alliance, (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
He said that the action was a gross misconduct as no member of the house had mandated him to speak on his behalf.
Alhaji Audu Mustapha, member representing Magumeri constituency supported the claim and seconded the motion.
The Speaker, Hon. Abdulkarim Lawal, who presided over the sitting thereafter called for members’ opinion after which all the 17 members present unanimously adopted the motion sacking the former leader.
The house also elected Hon Mohammed Zakariya, representing Dikwa constituency, as its new leader.
