Following instructions by the Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar directing that security be beefed up at all colleges especially Government College and Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary, Makurdi, Benue State capital, the State police command yesterday embarked on sensitization at both Colleges.
The State Police Commissioner Adams Audu was accompanied on the sensitization visits by the Assistant Inspector of Police, Zone 4 Adeola Adeleji as well as other senior police officers of the command.
Addressing teachers, students and other management staff of both schools, Adams said the command is not taking the threat lightly in view of the recent abduction of over 200 girls in Chibok, maintaining that they have taken drastic steps to avert any attack on both colleges.
He added that his men have been fully mobilized to comb all the areas of the schools to ensure that they are well fortified.
The Police Commissioner also urged the school authority to be on alert and inform the police of any strange movement around their schools.
Principals of Government College, Makurdi, Mr. Godfrey Apine Ugudu and his Mount Saint Gabriel’s counterpart Rev. Fr. Angus Fraser commended the prompt response of the police on the security threat, expressing confidence in them to forestall any possible attack.
