Delta State Police Command has intensified efforts to recover four missing persons in the recent boat mishap which occurred at Omeluigboma, near Oko community, Oshimili South Local Government Area of the State.
Police Public Relations Officer in the State,(PPRO) DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya who confirmed this to our Correspondent, said that eight persons were feared killed in the boat mishap, disclosing that four out the eight persons, four corpses were recovered.
It was gathered that during rainy season, the tributaries of River Niger usually overflow, causing major flooding in the surrounding communities as the only means of transportation for the residents to connect other communities, including Asaba, Onitsha and environs while in most cases they transport through canoe.
A resident in Omeluigboma, Mr Sylvanus Ejezie who spoke to our Correspondent said that the canoe capsized while ferrying passengers, leading to the death of the eight persons.
But DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya speaking further said that the police experts in water ways have commenced search for the four other corpses that were not found among the eight dead ones.
