Bloody clash between farmers, herdsmen averted in Jigawa

Officials of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) averted a would be bloody clash between farmers and herdsmen in Jigawa State.

The incident happened in Rugar Kurabe, Mallam Madori Local Government area yesterday, when cattles belonging to one Adamu Bature trespassed and grazed in to the farmland of one Garba Baffa and destroyed crops worth hundred thousands of naira, as a result of which conflict nearly erupted in the village.

Speaking on the incident, the state commandant of NSCDC, Dr. Muhammad Gidado Fari said that their prompt intervention was the reason why the impending conflict was averted, adding that the parties involved in the feud were allegedly instigated by their kinsmen.

According to him, his command was able to avert the conflict when they acted on tip-off by some peace loving inhabitants of the village, adding that he quickly mobilised his men and invaded the village with the mission to restore peace in the community.

He said that on their arrival, his men were able to amicably resolve the matter, adding that both parties signed a pact to compensate the injured one and agreed to live peacefully.

Dr. Fari also described the command’s ability to settle the dispute as a giant stride, stressing that the feat was a unique mandate of the corps in the state.

He lamented that “such conflicts demonstrate high potential to exacerbate insecurity and food crisis, particularly in rural areas with reverberating repercussions nationwide.”

“Our command vowed to restore peace and unity among herdsmen and farmers within this state. We will not rest until we see a violence-free Jigawa.” He boasted
