Blind persons protest against govt neglect in Adamawa

Hundreds of blind persons attempted to overrun the main gate of Government House Yola in protest of alleged insensitivity to their plight by Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla’s administration in Adamawa state.
The protesting blind persons under the umbrella of, “the National Association of the Blind, “ accused the state government of neglecting them in the scheme of things despite the campaign promises of a better deal if elected since 2015 elections.
During the scuffle on Monday at about 11:30 am, the blind persons exchanged blows physically with the security guards at the gate as, they made attempt to gain entrance into the Government House, clashed with guards using their guiding and working sticks.
Some of the blind complained that,they were beaten ,molested and tortured by the security men and called for human rights intervention.
The State Chairman of Nigerian Association of Blind,Mr Tizhe Kwada told newsmen at the gate of the Government House that some of their members were injured in the fracas with the security guards.
He stated that, members of the association had no option than to embark on the protest after several enteritis to the Government House to better their lots and series of promise by Governor Mohammed Jibrilla were not fulfilled.
“All the six Blind Centers in the state have been closed down since the inception of the present administration, “he disclosed.
“No employment opportunities for our members, even as security operatives continue to pursue them from the roads where they have their means of livelihood”.
According to Tizhe,”no amount of intimidation and harassment by security guards will deter them from continuing with their protest, vowing to return and continue with the protest the next day “,
Receiving the protesters,Adamawa state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr Usman Tola assured them. That their plight are been addressed and urged them to maintain the peace.
