The Council Chairman of Nangere Local Government Area and former Director of Social Welfare, Alh. Buba Ibrahim Langawa has indicted the police and army in the proliferation of illicit drugs and Indian Hemp, alleging that they are the ones who supply the drugs to consumers especially the youths.
The chairman stated this while speaking to newsmen in his office at the local government secretariat in Nangere on efforts being made to disabuse the minds of the youths from being used as thugs by politicians.
“I had an experience while working with the security, when I was a social worker. If you interview juveniles in our remand homes from where they get these drugs and Indian Hemps, they used to tell us that yes, the police and army used to give them the drugs and Indian Hemps to sell for them,” he said.
He expressed a disappointment in a situation where the government and people have built the hope that the security men would stop the distribution of illicit drugs and the Hemps only to discover that it was the same security men that are bringing the drugs and distributing it to juveniles.
“So, if you have built a hope on the security to rescue you from the distribution of drugs and Indian Hemps, this a situation where they are the ones bringing them and distributing to juveniles, were are we heading to,” he questioned.
He also feels disappointed that the council gives money to these security men to assist them to go round to catch and prosecute drug dealers and addicts, who are mostly juveniles, only to discover that they arrest innocent ones while their wives are the drug barons who sell the drugs seized by their husbands.
“Even during our security meetings at the local government, I used to tell them, the security men, look, you want my money to go round and catch all these juveniles making drugs, but the source is coming from you people. You go and catch innocent youths, there is no point I give you my money if you too should not stop distributing these things to our juveniles,” he stated.
He stressed that most of the wives of the security men are the drug barons who, while their husbands as security men are on the streets trying to catch offenders, their wives would be there selling the seized drugs to consumers, especially, the youths.
“Most of their wives are drug barons, while the police and NDLEA are on the streets trying to catch people, their wives are selling these to the consumers particularly juveniles. So honestly we need to be wise, our security men should be honest and fear God, otherwise me and you, we are nowhere,” he lamented.
He however called on the youths to stay aware from politicians who would give them drugs to intimidate their opponents, urging to rather use their senses, their intelligent to help themselves, their parents and the society.
“Let those politicians alone, let them bring their own children and give them drugs to fight and intimidate their opponents for them,” the chairman said.
