It was a black Wednesday yesterday in Kaduna as a truck landen with sand crushed to death four commuters at the popular KRPC junction along Kachia road in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
Investigation revealed that the truck was coming from the Marabah Rido axis and on approaching the KRPC t-junction, the driver saw the traffic light on red, but all the attempt by the driver to applied break failed and he resulted to maneuvering, crushing a motorcyclist and his passenger to death on the spot.
The truck then lipped unto a tricycle (a.k.a Keke Napep) crushing all passengers, two later died at the Sabo General Hospital, while two others are in critical conditions at the same hospital.
A Pharmacist who does not want his name in print, said he was in front of his shop around 8:45am when he saw the truck coming on high speed. “Even shouting by officers of KASTLEA for the driver to stop or slow down did not help matters.”
He refuted the allegations that officers of KASTLEA were chasing the driver, saying the officers packed their patrol vehicles in front of his shop.
The incident drew the anger of youth in the area who troop out in large numbers and barricaded the road resulting to long traffic.
The youth descended on the truck, smashing all its screens. However, the truck driver and his boys narrowly escaped being lynch by the irate youth.
It took the combined efforts of security personnel from the Police, Civil Defence Corp, and Vigilante group to bring the situation under control.
Findings also revealed that one of the victims was a lady who wedded a fortnight ago.
As at the time of filing in this report, most of the youth have left the scene, but security personnel are still on standby.
