Benue State University Teaching Hospital , BSUTH has received funding to the tune of 450 million naira from Hospital Assist Nigeria.
The Chief Medical Director, CMD of the hospital Prof. Terlumun Swende who disclosed this during an interaction with newsmen yesterday in Makurdi, said the fund was meant for revamping of facilities in the hospital like static and X-ray , manography and CT scan machines.
He also said the hospital as part of a Memoranda of Understanding, M.o.U signed with Heineken African Foundation some years ago, received the sun of 97,780 Euros for supply and installation of modern equipment in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
The CMD further that the hospital has been able to secure accreditation from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, West African College of Surgeon and Physicians for departments whose accreditation had expired or were previously given partial accreditation.
Prof. Swende lamented over decaying facilities and shortage of Benue manpower and passionately appealed to the Federal government to make urgent steps and take over the hospital.
“It would be far better if the Federal government takes over the hospital as it will benefit the Benue people more. Buhari led government should make haste and take over the hospital so that he can win the heart of Benue people. If this done, it will take off the huge financial burden from the State. So, I agree with Governor Samuel Ortom for his call that Federal government take over the hospital so it has done in other states’, he appealed.
The CMD also, intimated that the Benue State government has so far spent over 20 million naira for the treatment of over 400 victims of Fulani herdsmen attacks admitted in the hospital.
He decried the continuous brain drain of doctors in the country to other climes, attributing it to our poor system especially in the area if their welfare.
