From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

The Tiv Youth Council Worldwide, TYC has commended Nigeria security agencies for restoring peace in Benue and Taraba states following the security challenges that bedeviled the two states.
President of TYC, Mr. Mike Msuaan in a press statement in Makurdi, yesterday said the timely and strategic intervention of the gallant forces of the Nigerian Army backed by other security agencies ensured that the crisis in the two states, which led to wanton destruction of lives and property was brought under full control without degenerating further.
“The wild bandits, cattle rustlers, sponsored militia masquerading as cattle herders, and all other grades of emerging terrorists have been effectively combated and subdued through a fine mix of military intelligence and strategic warfare.
“For this, the Tiv Youth Council cannot thank the Nigerian Army, DSS, the Nigerian Police and other security agencies involved in the peace keeping enough,” he noted.
The TYC said the crises in the two states which affected majorly Tiv communities gave rise to humanitarian crisis with several people rendered homeless and living in IDPs camps.
According to the group, many people in the affected areas are still living with the painful memories of the security challenge, which led to the irreparable loss of several lives, properties and many communities, completely ravaged and destroyed.
“But with the restoration of peace and security to our region, development can now thrive. We have full confidence in the capacity of the Nigerian Military to effectively protect every inch of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
“We therefore call on all Nigerians to remain united and give the Security Agencies the full support needed in our collective interest.
“We call on our people in Benue and Taraba State to coexist peacefully, report suspicious characters and give credible information to the Army, DSS, Police and other security agencies to forestall any breakdown of law and order,” the group appealed.
