Victims of tanker explosion in Benue State are to be given mass burial by the state government.
Deputy Governor of the State, Benson Abounu disclosed this yesterday while briefing newsmen after his visit to various hospitals where the victims were receiving treatment.
Abounu said that the charred remains of victims of the explosion and those who could not claim their loves ones would be given mass burial.
He added that about 96 injured persons are receiving treatment both in Aliade and Makurdi.
“Am afraid to say that it has not been an easy ride in the sense that the degree of burns seen in the various hospitals are alarming.
“Some of the burns are 70 or more, there is a case of 90 percent burns who is battling between life and death.
“Unfortunately, the incident cut across all ages, we have children of nine and eleven years old and you have adults who are men and women as I talk to you as at last night we had 96 persons scattered around hospitals in Makurdi and Aliade.
“We have also unfortunately, experienced some mortality this morning between yesterday and today there were four(4) dead people as am talking to you now.
“There were a good number of people who were burnt beyond recognition and that means their relations could not identify them so we have decided that these people are going to be given mass burial”, Abounu said.
