Benue not occupied by Fulani herdsmen, Commander debunks

Commander Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, Major General Adeyemi Yekini has said that Fulani herdsmen are not occupying any part of Benue State.
Maj. Gen. Yekini who said this at the weekend while briefing journalists on the activities of the operation, narrated that troops of Sector 2 deployed to the State conducted a raid operation against suspected armed herdsmen camp in Anyiin, Logo local government area on 17 October 2018 at about 7 am.
He said when the suspected herdsmen saw his troops, the opened fire and during the gun duel, they forced the armed bandits to flee into the surrounding bushes.
“It is suspected that many of them were killed during exchange of fire. On searching the camp, troops recovered quantity 2 An 47 rifles, 3 AK 47 magazines, quantity 37 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition and 2 techno handset. We, thereafter destroyed their camp’, he stated.
The OPWS commander also, averred that the troop during an operation in Sai, Karsina Ala local government area, killed 12 militia men loyal to the dreaded, notorious and wanted Terwase Akwaza aka Gana including his wife, queen, regretting that a soldier got missing and frantic efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue him.
“ We are continually on the trail of Gana who is probably hiding in the bush. We will get him. He cannot escape justice “, Gen. Yekini vowed.
He explained that as result of their operations, over 145,000 internally displaced persons in Benue and Taraba States including 10,000 in Lau, Nasarawa State have returned home while some of the schools closed following the disturbances have reopened, adding that over 45 assorted weapons, 1285 rounds of ammunition, 24 AK 47 magazines and 74 suspects were arrested.
