The Labour Party in Benue state has outrightly denied rumors making the rounds that Governor Gabriel Suswam released the sum of N5 million to launch the party in the state.

Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Haa-Orpin Tersoo, who made the denial in a press statement made available to newsmen maintained that the rumor is false, malicious and mere fabrication.

He added that the rumours are machination orchestrated by some desperate politicians in the state.

“No member of our party has had any contact with Governor Gabriel Suswam. Not even the secretary Hon. Gyuse J.T(JP) will venture to make such a move on behalf of the party without the approval of the State Executive Committee or talk about the Governor releasing money for the launching of the party. These rumors are orchestrated by two groups of politicians.

“One is seeking to contest zone A North East senatorial seat, and with a canny impetuousness is trying to pitch the innocent Govenor Gabriel Suswam against the National Executive committee of his party in order to favour his ambition. The other is trying to gain entrance into the Labour Party to contest the same election but wrongly thinks that the current Executive of the party has no capacity to achieve what they have hitherto achieved without a big-wig sponsorship behind them. In this belief, his followers are already picking on an imagined and perceived enemy in order to test grounds before declaring their intention in joining the Labour Party so they don’t get caught up in complications in case the party is being sponsored from outside by fellow contestant of that seat”, the publicity Secretary explained.

He also averred that the perception that the state was seen to be politically polarized by the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressive Congress, APC, are over, maintaining that the Labour party which many now perceive as a third force in the state under the chairmanship of Comrade Adi Shirsha as well as other astute politicians like Haa-Orpin Tersoo, who was a state Deputy chairman of the defunct ACN, as its publicity secretary , Hon. Gyuse J.T (JP) a former state Secretary of the ACN as it secretary, Barr. Ayavga K.I., A former Legal consultant of the ACN as its Deputy Chairman amongst others, is a force to reckon with in the state.

“Thousands of that party’s followers across the state have moved to the Labour Party and this perhaps, explains why they are griped with fear. Many have believed that the state government maybe sponsoring the party in support of the state Executive Governor’s intentions to contest for the zone A senatorial seat,” he reasoned.
