The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) officials in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on monday clashed with some persons believed to be Illegal taskforce members in the area for allegedly extorting money from customers in the wake of continued blackout in the area and its environs.
Sources said the clash between the BEDC Officials and the fake taskforce members was bloody as many persons were allegedly brutalized and injured before the intervention of the police in Ughelli A Division.
Following this development, a staff of BEDC who was alleged to have been among others in the clash( name withheld) is currently being treated for severe injuries as he was said to have been stabbed by one of the suspected Illegal taskforce members during the melee.
Eyewitness Felix John said that the victim was chased by his assailants in a long race and unfortunately fell down in a hole where he was allegedly stabbed twice on his head and face before leaving him in his pool of blood to battle for his life at Okiki street, Uloho Avenue Ughelli.
But the Police Commissioner in the state Hafiz Muhammed Inuwah who confirmed this incident said some persons were arrested and are currently being detained for further investigation, adding that the police will do everything possible to ensure Justice in the matter and warned those causing trouble in the area to desist before they are caught in the long arm of the law.
A staff of BEDC who spoke to our Correspondent on condition of anonymity described the incident as unfortunate alleging that the BEDC boss was using his cronies to take over the job of employed staff of the Company.
