Delta state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has charged children to be alive to their responsibilities to their parents as measures to the attain fruitful nation building.
The Governor represented at the occasion of the commemoration of the “Day of the African Children by his Deputy, Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, at the Unity Hall , Government House, Asaba, urged children in the state to report all cases of violence against them to the appropriate authorities closer to them.
Governor Okowa explained that the 16 of June annually was set aside in memory of the 1976 pupils’ uprising in Soweto, South Africa to remember these children , especially those killed in cold blood.
He said that celebrating children in Africa would reflect a sober reflection and action towards addressing the huge challenges that children in African face on daily bases.
Governor Okowa noted that the theme for the 2019 celebration of the Day of the “African Child is Humanitarian Action In Africa: Children’s Right First”, was most appropriate because of myriad conflicts and crises across the African continent.
