From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna
The Nigerian Senators Forum, comprising of former and serving senators, have described the death of late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero as a monumental loss to the country.
Secretary of the forum, Senator Abubakar Girei, in a condolence message made available to newsmen in Kaduna yesterday, on behalf of the forum stated that Nigeria has indeed lost an icon, a man of timber and caliber, whose contributions to nation-building cannot be forgotten in a hurry.
The statement noted that the late Emir died when his wealth of experience as an elder statesman is most needed, particularly in the face of the present security challenges bedeviling the nation and the northern region in particular.
According to the forum, “The death of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, is certainly a monumental loss to Nigeria; he served this country well and his absence, particularly at these trying times, is quite painful.
“We, therefore, wish to painfully use this medium to condole with the good people and governments of Kano and Jigawa states over the death of their illustrious son and Nigerians as a whole.
“We pray Almighty God to grant him eternal rest and give the families in particular the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, Amin.
The late Emir was a revered traditional ruler who distinguished himself and has left a legacy worthy of emulation even after his death” the statement contained.
