Bayelsa state government said it would train 105 youths in the aviation sector, declaring that youths empowerment was it major priority.
According to the state Commissioner for Youths Development ,.Chief Collins Cocodia, Sporst development was also its core objective.
He made the remarks at the Inter Ministerial Press briefing organized by the state Ministry of Information, Culture and Orientation in Yenagoa.
Chief Cocodia disclosed that the state government had entered into agreement with the Aviation training Colleges in Zaria and Ilorin to train several youth in the areas of Aviation, including Aviation Traffic, Fire Fighting, Flight Dispatch, Marshal Flight Attendants, and Radio/ Phone Operators.
In the same vain, Cocodia also disclosed that similar training programmes for youths in the state were been organized with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITA) .
He further stated that, in a programme tagged: Catch them Young Skills Acquisition Programme, where 600 youth had been trained in collaboration with Industrial Training Fund (ITF).
Out this number, he said 300 youths had been graduated and the ceremony was expected to come up February 21..
He said community leadership training programme for 3000 youths also took place last September, as the programme, according to him, was beamed live to Germany .
Further describing the vision of the youths ministry as geared towards empowering youths in the state from ages 18 to 35 years, the Commissioner noted that to check Cult related activities among youths in the state, a bill to this effect was sent to the state House of Assembly.
On his part, the Sports Commissioner, Mr. Perekiye Burubeyefe, who noted that the ministry of sports development was created to ensure competitiveness for Bayelsans to excel, added that the ministry was also out to provide the basic infrastructure to promote Sports men and Women.
He disclosed that the Sports Academy in Asuama Community in the state was ready as all infrastructure for Sport had been completed.
He also informed that the state had also participated in various competitions in and out of the Country, as aspires men and women of the state’s extraction had excelled in various sports in Nigeria, Africa and World in the areas of Boxing, Swimming, Squash, draft, etc.
