It wasn’t officially clear the reason why it didn’t hold as earlier scheduled, there aremultiple reasons given by the people and officials.
This is even as a combined team of security personnel made up of the police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) laid siege to the premises of the Assembly complex.
Supporters and relations of elected lawmakers who had turned up to witness the inauguration were turned back by the security personnel who also locked up the main entrance, thereby preventing members of staff from gaining access to the complex.
Out of the 31 lawmakers elected to the Bauchi Assembly 22 are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). People’s Democratic Party PDP has eight members while New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP has one member.
The 8th Assembly ended last week with the former Speaker, Kawuwa Shehu Damina adjourning sitting sine die.
Some lawmakers-elect to the 9th Assembly had expressed reservations over the date fixed for their inauguration.
Reacting to the failure to inaugurate the Edo Assembly, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Yayanuwa Zaonabaro, told journalists, “The Bauchi State House of Assembly that the law that established the Assembly didn’t fixed a definite date for it’s inauguration but it said it must be inaugurated on a particular date.
He said said there was no breach of the law in the governor’s action and assured that the house will be inaugurated and it will get patriotic leadership.
Zainabari advices APC to stop heating the polity over the issue just
recently immediate past governor of the State Moha close the House for over one month.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has expressed displeasure on the adjournment of the inauguration of the 9th State House of Assembly by the governor Bala Mohammed which was earlier slated for Monday 17th.
A statement issued on Monday by the State Secretary of the party Alhaji Bako Hussaini observed that Nigeria’s Constitution did not empower a state Governor to suspend the inauguration after a proclamation.
The statement alleged that in order to perfect the governor’s plan, the Clerk of the Assembly was removed few days to the inauguration.
The statement reminded Governor Bala Mohammad that the action was undemocratic, null and void.
He said that APC has a clear majority in the 9th Assembly in the state with 22 members as against the ruling PDP with 8 members.
he statement further alleged that with the knowledge that APC is in control of the house, Bauchi state government is employing tactics to create situation similar to what played out in 2015 at the National Assembly to install minority over majority.
The statement said the APC leadership in the state will not fold its arms to allow the ruling party do anything contrary the Constitution of Nigeria and allied on security agencies to advise Governor Bala to restore the removed clerk immediately.
