A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi and the traditional title holder of Sark in Arewan Bauchi, Alhaji Hassan Mohammed has thrown his weight behind the Presidency of General Muhammadu Buhari come 2015, saying the former Head of State is the most credible among all the aspirants to the seat across the political divides in the country.
Mohammed, a PDP chieftain in Bauchi and a close associate of the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, did not hide his feelings toward the retired general when he told the press that “Let me tell you categorically clear that I’m 100% in support of Buhari’s presidency come 2015 and therefore appeal to all Nigerians to ensure his victory at the polls”.
Alhaji Hassan Mohammed noted at a press conference in Bauchi yesterday that had the retired army general wanted to amass wealth, he would have done so through the various positions Buhari held in Nigeria right from the seventies.
“Buhari’s crave for leadership is for Nigerians not for himself, if is it for money Buhari would have amassed wealth more than any Nigerian because he had held other lucrative positions that many Nigerians were not opportune, that could have enriched him”, he argued.
He explained that with all the positions Buhari held in the past including the governor of the defunct Northeastern state now comprising six states, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, and the Head of State, how many houses or properties could he said to have possessed?
The Sarkin Arewan Bauchi therefore called on the political class and Nigerians in general to ensure that General Buhari assumes the mantle of leadership in 2015 after several shots at the exalted seat of the president.
Sarkin Arewa also called on politicians, particularly members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as the APC flag-bearer in the forthcoming party primaries.
Alhaji Hassan Mohammed however maintained that he is still with the PDP, but was rather speaking as an elder on the need for a credible leader that would move the country out of the woods such as insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and economic down-turn.
He expressed dismay at the insecurity now bedeviling the Northeast geo-political zone which may likely escalate to other parts of the country, while enjoining all Nigerians to continue to pray for God to bring to an end the calamity that has each and every day been consuming tens of hundreds of lives in the sub-region.
Mohammed could not however defend the action of the FCT Minister, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, whose governorship aspiration posters ahead of 2015 elections adorned nooks and crannies of Bauchi State only to keep mum on his planned resignation to contest the seat.
