Landlords and caretakers in Bauchi state have been urged to provide adequate toilets facilities in all compounds to avoid indiscriminate open defecation in the state.
The Coordinator Women Empowerment Initiative (WEIN) Bauchi Mrs Hajara C Pisagih made the urged while commemorating world 2017 world toilet day at the weekend in Bauchi with the “theme waste water”.
“We have observed that most of the waste water in Bauchi metropolis is contaminated with human shit due to lack of inadequate toilets facilities in some areas and compounds . Hajara said “So therefore we are calling with loud voice to all landlords and caretakers to provide adequate toilets facilities in all compound” she said
The WEIN coordinator also called Ministries, Departments ,Agencies and Nongovernmental organisation’s that are stakeholders to action for the attainment of SDG goal 6 with the aim to reach everyone with sanitation, and have the proportion of untreated waste water and increase recycling and safe refuse by 2030.
To achieve this, Mrs Hajara said we need everybody’s excreta (shit) to be contained ,transport,treated and disposed of in a safe sustainable way.
Mrs Pisigah commended the Bauchi state government for actualizing the urban WASH sector reform through the MDAs ,adding that WEIN is part of it and would continue to support such moves that will tackle the global crisis.
