From Ahmed Kaigama, Bauchi

The on-going Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training to about 7, 000 Islamiyyah school teachers across the Bauchi state is geared to equip them with the modern system of education that has to do with the computer.

A director with the state’s Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Mohammed Chindo, who made the assertion at the graduation ceremony of the first batch of 200 ICT trained teachers in Bauchi yesterday, noted that Islamiyyah School teachers were far left behind in terms of modern education.

Chindo, also the Secretary of the Committee for the Re-imbursement of monthly allowances to Islamiyyah school teachers in the state, said the ICT training programme being conducted by the committee has the sole objective of uplifting the educational standard of the teachers generally.

He revealed that 300 other Islamiyyah teachers are about to sit for their ICT training examination at the Ningi Centre of the Bauchi Central Senatorial district while another 300 teachers have their similar training being ignited at the Katagum Centre of the Bauchi North Senatorial district of the state.

The graduation of the first batch of ICT trainees in Bauchi, which culminated with the presentation to each beneficiary a desktop computer set, has the teachers training being conducted by the Teachers Re-imbursement Committee constituted by Governor Isa Yuguda, in collaboration with Pinnacle View Outfit.

Chindo observed that it would be inappropriate for the committee to leave out teachers without computers after the training, hence its resolve to purchase the computers from the monthly administrative charges of N2 million being given to the committee which also covers the training expenses of the teachers.

He, therefore, appealed for humanitarian gestures, especially from non-governmental organisation and/or private companies, and wealthy individuals in the society to come in handy in supporting the teacher training programme, without which, he feared, would not be sustained.

Chindo further warned that machinery has been set in motion to monitor beneficiaries of the training against the sale of the computers as, according to him, anybody found wanting will definitely attract some disciplinary measures.

While expressing gratitude to the state government for opening yet another educational window to the Islamiyyah teachers, Chido said “the greatest challenge posed by the impact of the training programme led to over 20, 000 people wishing to join the training queue.”

Also speaking at the occasion, the teachers Reimbursement Committee Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Tanimu noted that the Islamiyyah School teachers pursue of the ICT education would attract other members of the society to follow suit.
