Bauchi State Government has taken bold steps to reverse the trend of misconducts in land administration and sanitize the system to restore public confidence in obtaining genuine land tittles in the state.
Director General Bauchi state Geographic Information Service, BAGIES, Baba Abubakar Suleyman stated this while interacting with stake holders in the administration of land in the state that comprises land vendors and staffers of the agency yesterday in Bauchi.
He said government introduced new policies in land administration in the state, as part of its effort to reduce lots of problems bedeviling land administration in the state.
According to him , the state governor, Mohammed Abubakar was seriously concerned regarding misconduct within the land sector.
This he said being reason to embark on some reforms to make certain changes that will reverse the trend of misconduct in the administration of land in the state.
He also said this was one of the reasons why the governor approved review of all the processes starting from the application form, and another new policy for compensation, all part of his effort to sustain development plan in the allocation of land and safeguard the trust of the public.
Suleiman said “the public lost confidence in the system because of fraudulent activities done between 1999 to date and the government is determined to reverse that trend and Alhamdulilahi today we have started to restore the confidence of the people which if succeeded it will reduce 80 percent of many court cases on land in the state” The Director General said the agency will commence registration of land vendors, properties on August 1, 2018 as part of its intention to help to restore sanity and bring confidence, hope and transparency to the people acquiring land and building properties across the state.
He said “under the new arrangement people will be asked to register their properties, and recertification of their certificates, even people with traditional customary tittles, even people with one room apartment we will give them the opportunity to register their portion and give them the certificate of occupancy”.
Suleiman solicited for the cooperation of the land vendors and all stake holders in order to succeed.
The land vendors who spoke at the interactive session thanked the state government for their efforts to sanitize the system and pledged to cooperate with the government to sanitize the system and advised the government to sensitize public before the commencement of the programme.
