The Bauchi police has confirmed that 7 people died in the Monday bomb explosion that rocked the ever-busy central market in Bauchi metropolis.
On the contrary, the blast which destroyed properties worth billions and razed over 70 shops was said to have killed 8 people and injured 19 by the acting Chief Medical Director, CMD, ATBU TH, Dr Saidu Abubakar Kadas.
He explained that the 27 victims comprised of 21 adults, 2 females, 2 male children and 1 female.
Speaking with journalists in the Central Market Traders’ Association office in Bauchi, the chairman of the association, Alhaji Adamu Musa Noma, informed that two men dressed in mobile police uniform and a lady came to the market Monday evening and bought boxes and Atamfa (Ankara) clothing materials and kept them in a shop.
According to Noma, one of the men went outside to make call, while the other detonated the bomb, saying that about 10 of his members lost their lives in the explosion.
He informed that about 70 shops were razed in the explosion, adding that goods worth billions of Naira were destroyed. He noted that only one sector, out of three in the market, was affected by the bomb blast.
The chairman expressed gratitude to the police, Army, Red Cross, men of the Bauchi State Fire Service, members of Islamic Aid Group, among others, for their prompt response to distress call and their efforts in ensuring that the fire that engulfed the market was put out.
Meanwhile, the police in Bauchi State have confirmed seven people died in the bomb blast, saying that 25 others sustained varying degree of injures from the incident.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Haruna Mohammed, in a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi, “So far, seven persons were confirmed dead, while 25 others sustained various degrees of injuries, out of which six have been treated and discharged and 19 others are responding to treatment three suspects were arrested for looting.”
He, however, said normalcy had been restored while investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Governor Yuguda has agreed to upset the explosion victims medical bills and reconstruct burned central Market.
Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda has commiserated with the victims of the Monday evening bomb blast at the Central Market in Bauchi with strong assurance that his administration will reconstruct the damaged market in order to restore the means of livelihood of the people just as he directed that government will pick up the medical bills of those injured.
A Press Release signed and issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Deacon Ishola Michael Adeyemi made available to newsmen in Bauchi yesterday.
The Governor who visited the scene of the incidence on Tuesday as well as the injured who are receiving medical attention at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, (ATBUTH) Bauchi reassured the people of the state his administration will continue to place security on its priority list.
