From Yusuf Mairiga Shekarau, Jos
Youth under the aegis of Narkuta, Babale, Banya Doka Development Association (NABABDA) has expressed dismay
over the recent demolition of multitudes of houses in the community by the University of Jos.
Peoples Daily earlier reported that the community had alleged the university for trooping in with excavators and heavy security to demolished not fewer than 50 houses.
The NABABDA, in a statement signed by its Chairman Auwal Abdullahi Isa described the acts as “a deliberate violation of socioeconomic, civic and political rights of the legitimate descendants of Narkuta community”.
The association decried that “more than hundreds of families were been recklessly massacred and rendered homeless as a result of the careless incident.
The association further claimed that most of those whose houses were demolished have inherited the lands from their ancestors.
It maintained that “as host community, Narkuta people have not been benefiting anything from the university, nothing, even the pipeline that supplies portable water into our community have decade long been blocked”.
But for peace reign, “we let be the square pegs in the square holes”.
“While we remain very resolute to ensuring peace and law abiding, we are equally appealing to all tiers of government to forthwith look into the plights of our people, the statement added”.
