Barcelona will reportedly make a move to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager if Joan Laporta wins the club’s presidential election. Laporta hopes to replace Josep Maria Bartomeu as Barca president and instead of drawing up a list big name signings he’d bring in if successful in that endeavour, as is customary, the 52 year old will look to bring Mourinho back to the Nou Camp.
With a transfer embargo in place it is perhaps wise to make a managerial appointment promise though one wonders if the club’s fans want to see Mourinho in charge of the club. Laporta served as president of the Catalan club from 2003 and 2010 and is apparently unhappy with the direction the club is going in and is open to the idea of a presidential return.
Mourinho worked at Barca under Sir Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal though his subsequent move to manage Real Madrid would surely be an obstacle to him managing the club.
