The convoy of the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Alhaji Zubairu Jibril Mai Gwari 11 was attacked on Tuesday Evening along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari expresseway.
Investigation by Peoples Daily revealed that the bandits’who have been terrorising Birnin-Gwari local government and environs, blocked the road with tree branches to force vehicles to stop and they suddenly appeared in front of the vehicles shooting sporadically.
Giving credence to this, one of the Emir’s drivers, Umar Jibril, who
confirmed the incident to journalists said the 73-year-old monarch was elsewhere when the attacked occurred.
According to him, the bandits rained bullets on the vehicles in the convoy, saying , they had blocked the road with tree branches to force them to stop and they suddenly appeared in front of their vehicles shooting sporadically.
“Despite the blockage of the road and the gunshots, we did not stop, they targeted me, since I was driving but as Allah will have it, the bullet missed my head.”
He however said that, apart from minor injuries sustained from shattered glasses, no one was injured.
Alhaji Zubairu was among the top rulers who held a virtual meeting with the State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, last week when the recurring crisis of banditry ravaging the state was discussed.
