Super Falcons forwards Desire Oparanozie and Francisca Ordega have joined the rest of their team mates preparing for the 2014 African Women Championship (AWC) in Namibia.
Also in camp are Onome Ebi and Esther Sunday who ply their trade in Belarus and veteran striker Pepertua Nkwocha of Sunnana Sk who arrived Nigeria Wednesday morning.
The former Falconets duo ( Oparanozie and Ordega) said they would use the upcoming mundial to redeem the image of Nigeria in continental football.
Oparanozie who is now with French side EA Guingamp expressed relief that she is finally with the national team as it seemed her club was not ready to release her.”My club almost did not release because of the matches we had to play in the league.
I am happy that they released me and I am finally here to help the Falcons do well and retain the trophy,” said the striker who has scored three goals for her French side.
Ordega, who plies her trade for Swedish side Pitea, on her part expressed delight to be back the national team fold after an absence of two years. “I am happy to be back to the Super Falcons for the AWC.
I was not part of the championship two years ago and it looked like the same thing was going to happen this year but I bluntly refused,” she said.
“I am happy to be here and I promise to give to see that we reclaim the trophy and bring back the glory days to the Super Falcons.
The duo had their first training session with the rest of the squad on Wednesday morning.
