From James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has called on all Nigerians to avoid actions that are capable of leading to war and other national disasters.
Amosun who made the call in his address delivered at the 2015 Armed Forces Remembrance Day held at Arcade Ground located within the Government Secretariat, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, noted that the celebration should not be seen as an annual ritual, but a solemn moment steeped in deep appreciation for men and women who gave their all for our nationhood.
“All Nigerians must demonstrate acts of patriotism at all times. Nigerians should love Nigeria and remember that we have no other place to call our home. Like the heroes that we are honouring today, we must be willing to give our all. Our diversity should be a source of strength rather than weakness. Development is only possible in an atmosphere devoid of rancour and acrimony”.
He therefore urged Nigerians to continue to pray for peace, unity and progress in the country, to pray for the gallant men and women who laid their lives in the service of our country and to constantly remember the families they left behind who need to be cared and catered for.
“I appreciate the efforts of the Nigerian Legion in ensuring that the families the deceased officers left behind are well catered for”, pointing out that “we should not leave this responsibility to the Nigerian Legion alone, but it should be a collective debt we need to pay in the memory of the deceased”, Amosun said.
