Two people, a truck driver and his boy were on Wednesday night burnt beyond recognition when a trailer carrying diesel lost control and rammed into two cars and caught fire, burning a hotel in the process.
Peoples Daily reliably gathered that the ghastly accident which occurred around 8.30pm on Wednesday night at Felele, an outskirt of Lokoja metropolis, took the state fire service more than four hours to control the inferno.
Speaking at the scene of the accident yesterday, the state Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi said that the recent accident is one out of many that have occurred on highways in the state, saying it a pointer
to the government to ensure that law guiding construction of structures near highways is strictly adhered to by the people.
Awoniyi who pointed out that 23 states in the country pass through Kogi on daily basis, appealed to motorists travelling through the state to be careful and be vigilant to make the road safe for other users.
He also called on truck drivers to adhere to traffic regulations and prompt maintenance of their vehicles to forestall reoccurrence of road mishap.
The Manging Director of the guest house that was burnt by the inferno, Mr. Michael Ayua told newsmen that the vehicle lost control and rammed into two vehicles parked in front of the hotel.
According to him, “the structure cost him about N15 million when he built it few years ago, even as he disclosed that motor spare parts dealers occupying the shop attached to the hotel also lost their property worth several millions.
