The break-away faction of the Academic Staff Union of the Universities (ASUU) of the University of Abuja branch, called the ASUU Integrity said it has resolved not to be part of the strike.
This is coming on the heels of the disclosure by the chairman of the ASUU, University of Abuja branch, Mr. Ben Ugheoke, on the reason for union’s resolve to embark on an indefinite strike to press for their demands.
Ugheoke, who made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Gwagwalada, alleged that since April, 2013, the vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. James Adelabu had refused to pay their check-off dues of the union, as was mandated by the Trade Union Act.
He also alleged that the vice-chancellor deliberately refused to pay their teaching, marking, supervision and professional allowances of the part-time/full-time lecturers since 2010.
He further alleged that the information available to the union showed that the funds allocated to the university were being misappropriated by the Vice-Chancellor.
The UniAbuja ASUU chairman therefore, explained that since the Federal Government constituted a visitation panel inJuly16, 2012 to resolve the issues affecting the institution, up till now the White Paper of the report was yet to be released.
On his reaction, the vice-chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. James Adelabu, said that all allegations leveled against him by the ASUU were mere fabrications.
