The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Chapter has ease-out Factions acting as the weft against its leadership.
Chairman of the AAU-ASUU, Dr. Monday Igbafen, who disclosed this to journalists, said the union remained united.
Igbafen dismissed speculation that the union had been engulfed in a leadership crisis, which allegedly disrupted its election earlier scheduled for February 27, 2018.
He also clarified the reports, some aggrieved members of the union had frowned at the alleged extension of the tenure of the executive members and accused the chairman of allegedly steering the affairs of the union without regards to the input of other members.
According to him, the union held a congress on April 12 for the purpose of conducting an election into various positions in the branch executive committee of the union.
He recalled that a national team led by the union’s National Vice President, Prof. Vincent Osodeke, monitored the conduct of the election.
“The election was generally peaceful with a massive turnout of members. And there was no faction. We have successfully held our election.
“Our election has brought an end to the speculation. Everybody participated in the election.”
He also stated that the new leadership of the union would continue to work for the improvement of the welfare of its members.
