By Stanley Onyekwere

The Chairperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, (NANNM), Comrade Deborah Yusufu, has called on government to enhance welfare of health workers, especially nurses to ensure better service delivery.
In particular, Yusufu implored government to as a matter of urgency release funds for payment of arrears of salaries and allowances, owed health workers, including Nurses, to enhance their welfare and ensure better service delivery.
She made this point at the opening ceremony of the 2019 FCT Nurses Week/Scientific workshop which held recently, in Abuja.
“Nurses are often the first and the only health professionals that people see and the quality of their initial assessment, care and treatment is vital. Nurses are also part of their local community – sharing its culture, strength and vulnerabilities and can shape and deliver effective interventions to meet the needs of patients, families and communities.
“We aimed to review our roles as nurses with a massive voice to lead, and also ensure health for all and at all levels and in all places of work and life, a vital role to play in achieving National health goals as well as building a healthy Nation.
“Nurses are patient, caring, we offers professional and therapeutic touch by assisting people who are suffering from either physical , mental or psychological disorder. It is a profession that requires dedication to service, sacrifice and support for others,” she stressed.
