One of the aspirants for the Kaduna State House Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Malam Adamu Kabir Umar, has promised to channel his energy to ensuring that children of the poor and less privileged are educated.
Adamu, who wants to represent the people of Ungwan Sunusi Constituency of Kaduna North of the State, also promised to operate an open door policy if he wins the ticket during the party primaries and subsequently the general elections.
Addressing journalists at the Secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Secretariat yesterday, Malam Adamu Kabir Umar, said anyone seeking to be elected as a lawmaker must be fully prepared to understand needs of the people and make laws that will better their lots.
He said part of the duties and responsibilities of a lawmaker is to scrutinize government policy, existing laws, make new laws, oversight function, protecting the Rights of Citizens, inhabitants etc.
“While discharging all these I shall reckon with the need to support the government by both being supportive on the floor and of course by extension, working for the best interest of the people that elected me to simply and seriously represent their interest.
“Healthcare insurance is of priority to my membership and stewardship. The people deserve comprehensive healthcare system that takes away 95% or 100% of their financial burden. I will support springing of recreational centers, meaning our public schools premises ought to be protected”, he said.
