From Osakhare Erese Asaba

Two unidentified babies between three months old, were on Wednesday in the early hours found dead, and dumped at the refuse dump site along Benin-Asaba Expressway.
It was gathered that the babies were wrapped in sack bags, and carefully dumped at the refuse dump site, but scavengers around 9:30am discovered them, and raised the alarm which attracted people to the scene including policemen.
But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka who confirmed the incident said: “investigation is ongoing, we have not arrested anybody, scavengers discovered babies dead packaged in sack bags, and dumped at the site”.
Investigation revealed that dumping of babies at the dump site, had been reoccurring decimal, as in many a time dead unidentified babies are found at the dump site smelling.
A resident in the area, Mr. Charles Omoue who spoke to our reporter said: “this is often where the dump dead babies, and the odours in most cases will not allow us to get comfort, the security agents should bring those dumping dead babies on the dump site to book”.
Further investigation revealed that palpable tension and fear of the unknown have enveloped residents of the area who have however appealed to the State Government and security agents to help fish out the perpetrators.
Unconfirmed sources said government since the establishment of the dump site, had allegedly been nonchalant on the activities of evil perpetrators, a situation that had portended the continued dumping of dead babies by yet unidentified persons.
But the State Commissioner for Environment, Barr. John Nani said it was not true, disclosing that efforts were being put in place to bring to book those who have been dumping babies in the dumping site “We will soon bring to book those doing the evil”, he told our reporter.
