On Thursday September 3, 2020 People’s Republic of China commemorated 75th anniversary of victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Aggression and World Anti-Fascist War. The Chinese people tenaciously fought the most brutal war in recent history for 14 years which in the end the aggressors were thoroughly defeated.
It was recalled that the Japanese forces launched a full invasion of China, marked by urban warfare and atrocities such as the notorious rape of Nanking (now Nanjing) the then China’s political capital in Jiangsu province. It was estimated that the aggression claimed more than 35 million Chinese souls from both civilians and the military. It started the earliest and lasted the longest, featuring the toughest conditions as well as the sacrifice during the World War II.
Actually, the commencement of the World War II was September 18, 1931 – when Japanese soldiers of the Kwantung Army fabricated a railway explosion near modern Shenyang to begin demanding territorial concessions from China. China was the main battlefield in the Asian continent during the World War II.
China’s political capital of Nanjing would also fall in 1937 in an orgy of murder and rape, nearly two years before the official start of war in Europe in 1939. The last four years of the official WWII saw the cooperation of the Allied powers, France, the Soviet Union, United Kingdom, and United States along with China to combat the great threat of world peace and security. The war has forever changed China and China-Japan relations.
After 1940, greater military resistance by Chinese forces in battles and skirmishes against occupying Japanese forces weakened the tide of Japanese advancement across mainland Asia. On September 2, 1945, japan formally surrendered: September 3 commemorates the first day after war ended and remains the victory day for the Chinese.
Earlier on the commemoration day Chinese President Xi Jinping went to a museum in Beijing suburb to commemorate the anniversary along with other Communist Party leaders; a minute of silence was observed followed by laying of wreath by the President Xi in honour for the martyrs.
Speaking at the symposium later in the day in the midst of veterans who survived the war, President Xi Jinping hailed the Chinese nations great spirit, stressing patriotism and heroism in the effort to achieve China’s national rejuvenation. He reiterated that the Chinese nation as a whole fought and won the war with great spirits of patriotism and heroism, which is invaluable today and can motivate the Chinese people to overcome all difficulties and obstacles and strive to achieve national rejuvenation.
President Xi maintained that it is important to remember the suffering and loss of the war, but one must not forget the war in China in extent consequences and legacy.
In his first ever response to some bullying leaders, President Xi Jinping pointed out that anyone or any force that intends to distort and change socialism with Chinese characteristic or deny and deface the great progress that the Chinese people have made in building socialism, won’t be tolerated. And the Chinese people will not agree on anyone and any force that separates the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese people and make them confront each other, president Xi warned.
Also, anyone and any force that tries to bullying tactics and attempts to change the development path of the country, obstruct the efforts of the Chinese people to create a better life for themselves, won’t be tolerated either, said president Xi.
Earlier, in an exchange of messages with President Vladimir Putin of Russia on the occasion of the victory anniversary, President Xi Jinping said he is ready to work with his Russian counterpart to join efforts with international community to resolutely safeguard the victory of World War II as well as international fairness and justice.
On this day 75 years ago, the Chinese people’s war of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the Soviet Union’s war against Japan achieved victory, marking the ultimate victory of the world Anti-Fascist war. President Putin noted in his message.
In his message to the Chinese on the victory anniversary President Putin said the Soviet Union and China were the main battlefields in the fight against fascism and militarism and made huge sacrifices in defeating the aggressors.
Russia is willing to continue to make active efforts with China to prevent wars and conflicts and maintain stability and security across the world, Putin assured China.
As at the time Japan surrendered, a total of 1.86 million Japanese invaders were stationed in China, accounting for nearly 52 percent of the total Japanese combatants abroad. Also, during the war, 1.5 million Japanese troops died while China lost more than 35 million military and civilians’ lives during the brutal war.
