Arnold Schwarzenegger could start filming The Legend of Conan in 2015, the producer has said.
Fredrik Malmberg said he hopes that the movie will start production next spring if everything works out, with the script already in its final draft, reported Comingsoon.net.
“We’ll probably have this turned in around September after the holiday, and then we’ll take it to the studio and if they’re happy, we can hopefully start [production] in the spring,” he told The Arnold Fans.
The producer also revealed that a director has yet to be chosen, claiming that there are a number of candidates including “old great names” and “new fresh faces”.
Fredrik said that Arnie, who would reprise his role as Conan the Barbarian, is also hoping the third instalment will be his next film after Terminator: Genesis, which he is currently shooting in New Orleans.
The Legend Of Conan is tipped to be a direct sequel of the original 1982 film, “bypassing” its 1984 sequel Conan The Destroyer and the 2011 film starring Jason Momoa.
“Arnold wants that. I would like that and I know everyone from the studio side would like that but it’s all in the script. We need to get the script where it’s right and ready to go,” he continued.
Fredrik added: “In the movie world, nowadays, when a movie is a ‘go’ movie, it happens very quickly. It’s up to Universal to set the date for it to be released but personally, I don’t think it has to be a summer movie. This iconic role of Arnold as Conan is so big that it can be year round.”
Arnie confirmed he would return to his Conan role in June, saying: “I’m also going to do King Conan – to play that role.”
