Army trains 24 young officers on terrorism, counter insurgency in Bauchi

The Nigerian Army Armour School (NAAS), has completed the training of 24 Young Officers of the Armoured on the rudiments of Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Operation (CTCOIN).

The Chief Instructor of the Young Officer Course, Colonel Suleiman Idris said the officers who spent 3 weeks on the course went through four wings of the school in response to the security challenges confronting the country.

According to him, “Considering the present day security challenges in the country, the students were trained on patrols, cordon and search operations, ambush, raid and road blocks amongst others.

The NAAS can conveniently state that these sets of officers are now well grounded in rudiments of counter terrorism and counter insurgency operation (CTCOIN).”

He said the students were introduced to the concept of Manoeuvrist Approach to Warfare (MAW) and Military Operation other than War (MOOTW).

The Commander Armoured Corps, Major General Ugo Buzugbe advised the students to put into use the knowledge acquired during their training, particularly now that the country is facing security challenges as their expertise is highly needed in curbing the security challenges.

According to him, “the need for this cannot be over emphasised because of the security challenges and that was why I directed that army personnel must be able to handle all the equipment and the communication gadgets, so that in the case of any eventuality they can manned the equipment.”

Colonel Benjamin Sawyeer congratulated the young officers and challenged them to go out into the field and apply the knowledge acquired at the NAAS.

Lieutenants and one Lieutenant were decorated with the ranks of Lieutenants and Captain respectively.

The statement said the occasion took place at the Hassan Usman Katisna’s Officers Mess of the Obeinu barracks in Bauchi.
