The Nigerian Army has sought media cooperation and collaboration in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in the North East.
Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Biu made the appeal in Maiduguri at a luncheon organised for Defence correspondents in the state.
The GOC tasked them on professionalism also pointed out that they are critical stakeholders in the fight against terrorists. He also stated that the luncheon was organised in appreciation of their efforts and to thank them for their good.
He stressed that their partnership and continual reportage has been a vital weapon in the drive to end insurgency.
Biu also urged them to continue in the path of truth and feel free to clarify facts from the military authority before publication.
He assured the journalists of the Division’s cooperation at all times, emphasising that the Division has competent media/public relations officers that are ever ready to attend to them.
The Acting GIC added that the larger populace will continue to depend on the information coming from the correspondents on ground in arriving at the conclusion about insurgency in the North East.
Responding, the Chairman Correspondents Chapel Maiduguri Chapter, Haruna Biu assured the GOC of their continual reportage of events and maintaining the ethics of the profession at all times.
Haruna condemned the activities of some unscrupulous elements especially those using social media aimed at tarnishing the image of journalists in the state.
He promised that the Nigerian army will work with the division to see to the end of insurgency in the North East.
