A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP),Nanbol Audu was paraded by the Kaduna State Police Command alongside two others for gun running, with arms and ammunition recovered as well as N400,000 cash and a yellow Mercedes Benz 230-E, with registration number LGT 588 RJ, used in concealing the arms.
According to reports from an online media, Nanbol who happened to be the armoury officer of the command together with his accomplices were arrested during an alleged attempt to steal firearms from the command’s armoury. Umar Ambursa, Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended late in the night, precisely at about 11:30 pm penultimate Monday, after Nanbol arrived the armoury with two unknown persons in a yellow Mercedes Benz car allegedly to steal arms and ammunition.
According to the CP, the suspects hid the car behind the armoury while they loaded it with arms but for vigilant police officers on guard who suspected foul play and immediately prevented the vehicle from leaving the area. “Upon interrogation, the State Armament Officer could not give satisfactory account of his action which led to his arrest and the two other occupants of the vehicle, one Zingkur Joseph of Trade Centre Jos, and Samuel Adamu of Kuru Jos-South Local Government Area of Plateau State, respectively”, the police commissioner said.”During a search at the spot, 11 G3 Rifles already concealed under the vehicle’s seat were recovered”.
One of the civilian suspects under interrogation revealed that he is a blacksmith who specializes in making local firearms. “The two suspects came from Jos, Plateau State, on arrangement to purchase the said firearms from the armament officer at the cost of N400,000”, CP Ambursa said.
