Army commences operation Yaki in Niger LGs

The Nigerian Armed Forces personnel have begun what they tagged “ Operation Yaki” in some local government areas of Niger state to address insecurity challenges bedeviling the state.
Recall that casualties were recently suffered by the Nigerian Police and vigilante in Niger state. Munya, Shiroro and Rafi local government areas of the state had been under the siege of cattle rustlers and kidnappers in the last couple of months.
The operation is to dislodge cattle rustlers and kidnappers that have taken over some of the local government areas in the state which has consequently resulted in several attacks and counter attacks.
The “operation Yaki” is designed to “clear the local government areas of all undesirable elements.
Indication to this effect emerged yesterday when Major General Mohammed Mohammed led top military officers to the Government House Minna to brief the Acting Governor Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso about the operation.
Our correspondent reports that the operation would be coordinated by Major General Mohammed Mohammed, General Officer Commanding 1 Mechanized Brigade of the Nigerian Army.
Major General Odiakor, Garrison Commander, Colonel Yau representing Commander Signals, Colonel Obayo Staff Officer to the GOC were all on the GOCs team to the Government House.
The Nigerian Army team held a 20 minutes meeting with the Acting Governor Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso and another 15 minutes meeting with the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Isah Ladan before leaving the Government House.
The team was accompanied in to the Government House Minna by five truck -load of stern and heavily armed soldiers who took over the entire Government House.
Although the press was not allowed into any of the closed door meetings.
