Armed hoodlums on Sunday night attacked students’ hostel in Abraka community in Delta State and made away with the victims’ phones, others worth millions of naira.
Eyewitness, Stella Okpurishigbene said the hoodlums numbering six, allegedly scaled the fence of the hostel to gain entrance into the unsuspecting victims and robbed them of their belongings.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Onovuwakpoyeya Onome who confirmed the attack on the victims who are also students of the state owned university, DELSU, said the hoodlums made away with their belongings worth millions of naira.
DSP Onovuwakpoyeya disclosed that the police were on the trail of the hoodlums, assuring that they will be arrested soon.
It was gathered that nine iPhones and cash of N116,000 including laptops were allegedly made away from the victims at gunpoint.
“Of all the persons that were to bed, I suffered the most because I did not have cash to give them, iPhones or any other phone so I was beaten and hit very hard on my head.
This is not the first time they are robbing us in this hostel, imagine they asked me why I was staying in an expensive hostel yet I could not afford a phone and they started beating me” the victim who gave her name as Many Okwokwo said.
Some Officials of DELSU who spoke on condition of anonymity said the hostel is privately owned without security provided for the occupants.
“We the school authorities can’t be accountable to any security lapses because the victims chose to stay in such privately owned hostel without security after we had warned them against such hostels’ they disclosed.
