A Kaduna based Non-Governmental Organization, Lieutenant Colonel Kabiru Yusuf Help for Heroes Foundation, has distributed cash gifts to military widows in Kaduna.
This comes as the nation celebrates the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The President and Founder of the Organization, Alhaji Mashood Yusuf Kayode said the decision to empower the widows is in the spirit of the Armed Forces Remembrance day celebration.
He said the foundation having received various requests from the widows decided to empower some of the widows with cash tokens that will help improve their businesses or start up businesses that will help them become self reliant and self sufficient.
The UK based philanthropist also said the foundation has already put in place measures to engage some of the widows in skills acquisition programmes after which they will be provided with start-up kits to enable them be engaged in one form of business or the other.
“i and my board members carried out an assessment of the requests put forward by the widows and after careful deliberation we randomly selected the widows to benefit from this batch of empowerment.
Others are going to benefit from our skills acquisition programmes scheduled to commence in a couple of weeks”.
Alhaji Mashood who said the foundation is committed to supporting the military widows in any way possible, further called individuals and other philanthropists to support the NGO in achieving its set goals and objectives to provide succour to the widows of the fallen heroes who laid down their lives for their fatherland.
Speaking to newsmen, some of the widows who benefitted from the empowerment exercise commended and appreciated the organisation for the gesture, which they said will go a long way in helping them take care of their children. They called on other well to do individuals in the society to emulate them.
“We cannot thank him enough, but we give thanks to God Almighty who is using this our soon to support us, we pray that God will reward him abundantly.
This is the first time someone else aside the Federal Government and the Armed forces is looking at the plight of the Military widows, we thank Alhaji Mashood Kayode and we pray that God will continue to bless him and his family”.
