A 35-year-old applicant, Tochukwu Nwaubani, on Thursday appeared in a Grade 1 Area Court in Kado over theft of N70, 000 from a Bureau de Change operator.
Nwaubani, who lives in Anguwan Cement, Karimo, is charged with two counts of joint act and theft.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that Alhaji Salisu Usman, who operates a Bureau de Change opposite Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, reported the matter at Utako Police Station on Sept. 24.
Ibrahim said that sometime in June, the accused and two others, now at large, `dipped’ their hands into the complainant’s pocket and stole N70,000 in a taxi.
He said the complainant discovered that his money was missing, after the accused and his accomplice had alighted from the taxi.
Ibrahim said the complainant saw the accused at Berger Bus Stop, on July 2 and called the police who apprehended him.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provision of sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code.
After the charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding judge, Abubakar Sadiq, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Sadiq ordered that the surety must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned hearing in the case until November 22. (NAN)
