The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government for not succumbing to the whims and caprices of disgruntled forces within the rank of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to subvert the will of the people in the just concluded Edo State Governorship Election.
The APGA Deputy National Chairman, Southern, Engr. Uchenna Okogbuo gave the commendation in a statement made available to journalists Tuesday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had on Sunday declared Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, winner of the Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.
INEC’s Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh declared Obaseki winner after he polled a whooping 307,955 votes to humble his closest challenger, Ize-Iyamu of the APC, who polled a total of 223,619 votes
However, the APGA leader, Okogbuo while commending President Buhari, said Governor Godwin Obaseki’s reemergence has manifested that the people of Edo were pleased with the achievements of the reelected Governor.
Okogbuo further mocked the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the outcome of the Edo election and attributed the victory to Obaseki’s hard work, and not that of the PDP which failed Nigeria citizenry while presiding over the affairs of the nation.
His words, “The non-interference of President Buhari is also commendable. In the PDP era of Obasanjo and Jonathan, two undemocratic presidents, what happened in Edo, can never have seen the light of the day. In those days, what we heard in their own words were ‘ DECLARE PDP THE WINNER, LET’S MEET THEM IN THE COURT” then our electoral umpires will do just that.
“What gave Obaseki victory in Edo State in the last election was his good deed and not PDP. He started his political career in APC and impacted on his people. When the godfathers wanted to twist his arms, he refused and Edo people saw it and condemned the actions of the Godfathers and stood by him in the election.
“The Obaseki and Oshiomhole’s saga could be likened to Ngige and Uba’s in Anambra State. Obaseki and Ngige are real democrats who liberated their people from the politics of godfatherism and poundage. Abia State citizens over to you”.
