The National Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Caretaker committee, John Akpanudoedehe, yesterday threatened that the Mai Mala Buni led interim committee of the party will not condone any form of bribery and corruption among party members.
Senator Akpanudoedehe said this when he hosted the APC Professionals Forum at the APC national Secretariat in Abuja, where he said the objective of the Committee is to realise the set targets as stated by President Muhammadu Buhari during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party.
According to him, the caretaker committee would listen to and engage with the people, whom he described as ‘the raw material of politics’, so as to enhance a strong platform on which the party could serve them better.
He informed them that many people, including himself, had suffered excruciating ordeals to ensure the APC emerges as the party in control of the affairs of government today.
The APC Secretary said the party was in the process of reconciling and restructuring in line with the mandate of President Buhari, which aims at merging discordant factions of the party into a single mainstream.
In response to the forum’s appeal for board appointments, Akpanudoedehe said that he would relay their message to the Chairman of the National Caretaker committee of the party for further action.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the Forum, Akeem Godwin Akintayo, thanked Akpanudoedehe for granting them audience; and congratulated him on his appointment as National Secretary of the party.
He introduced the forum as comprising innovative technocrats and intellectuals committed to an ideology, who came together in 2018, to create the group, at a time when the APC seemed to have drifted off course, and lost focus.
Akintayo said they intended to use the forum as a vehicle to drive a change process; and campaign loudly for the restoration of the party to its foundational ideology; in the context of which they engaged in robust and sustained advocacy.
He thanked God that their efforts paid off when President Muhammadu Buhari endorsed the convening of a NEC meeting which fallout served to save the party from further disintegration and embarrassment with the constitution of a caretaker committee.
Hon. Akintayo added that members of the APC Professionals Forum are also strong supporters of President Buhari; and that most of them had suffered trying ordeals in their efforts to enthrone the noble ideals that defined the party’s original ideology.
He pledged the forum’s readiness to contribute in whatever capacity to assist the Caretaker Committee in achieving the ideals, and appealed that its members be appointed into boards when inaugurated, and involved in affairs during the party’s national convention.
