The Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District of Niger State, Senator David Umaru has condemned and rejected in its entirety the process and result of his senatorial primary election.
The lawmaker made his position known yesterday in a press briefing where he added that the primary was predetermined and marred by violence, opened vote buying and use of thugs to intimidate and beat up his supporters.
He emphatically condemned the whole process and described it as sham, insisting that the primary should be concealed, hence the process cannot be described as free, fair and transparent election.
Senator Umaru however lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state saying the party officials connived with thugs to disrupt the election process, non use of the party members list and results were predetermined in favour of an aspirant.
According to him, “This situation will destroy the APC as a party if these kind of situation is allowed to stand, I call on the national Chairman of our party Comrade Adams Oshemole who will not condole these to quickly intervene so that this should not stand,” he said.
Continuing, “This can affect the chances of the party in the state, this will destroy our democracy especially the use of money is a shame and hypocritic for a party with a slogan of fighting corruption allowing corruption to strive in election process if this is allowed to stand,” he stated.
The legislature who said that he has options but will give the party the opportunity to quickly do the right thing as this is just primary election however revealed that one of the aspirant was going about dishing out money to party officials of the local governments he visited to the sum of between N4 million and N5 million respectively and rampart money given to electorates in connivance with party officials was least expected.
He noted that he expected transparent, free and fair election but reverse was the case adding the he has informed Senator Ahmed Lawal and had called the national party Chairman severally but did not pick assured he is busy and will called him back although he had sent him text message to that effect.
Umaru mentioned local governments centres like Paikoro , Jere, Kafinkoro, Kwanu, Ishew in Shiroro, Gurara, Chanchaga where no elections were held but results were written when it was marred by violence.
