From Uche Uche, Damaturu
Following the selection made recently by Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, for his Deputy, Abubakar Aliyu, to contest for the senate seat to represent Yobe Zone B senatorial district, the battle has already started and strategies being mapped out by the supporters of the Deputy to achieve the desired objective of retaking the seat which was lost to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 elections as a result of protest votes cast by aggrieved All Progressives Congress members in the zone.
The preparation for the 2019 election in support of Engr. Abubakar Aliyu was manifested yesterday when stakeholders of APC in Zone B met and shared views on the way forward, at the residence of the former Deputy Governor of the state, Saleh Bagere, who also chaired the meeting.
Speaking to our reporter in Damaturu, the state capital yesterday shortly after the meeting, Usman Daya, the Secretary of APC for Fika local government area, said the meeting was meant to reconcile those who are aggrieved and to strategize on how to carry out the election campaign for optimum success.
“The meeting is to correct the mishap of the 2015 elections which led to our losing two seats, the House of Representatives and Senate to the opposition PDP, which is a conservative party, and I can assure you that we are going to retake those seats in the 2019 election, by God’s grace,” he stated.
Speaking to our reporter also, Abubakar Aliyu, commended the organizers of the meeting, adding that he has served his people as the Deputy Governor for the past ten years and would use the experience he has gathered to, this time, serve as more of an ambassador of his own constituency, so that with him and the governor at the senate, they would work to bring in more dividends of democracy to Yobe.
Yobe Zone B is made up of four local governments of Fika, Potiskum, Fune and Nangere, which PDP won, both for the senate and House of Representatives in the 2015 general election.
