From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna
Niger state government has described the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state as a group of people only interested in blackmailing the government in order to cast negative values at the conduct and character of the governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu.
Aliyu’s Chief Press Secretary, Israel Ebije, disclosed this in a statement signed in Minna yesterday where he called on people of the state to discountenance the puerile reasoning of the opposition describing it an errand to smear the state government to score cheap political mileage.
The spokesman recalled that the opposition mischievously quoted the governor out of content adding that Aliyu’s position on some of his Special Advisers not doing their bit was only an attempt at encouraging the newly sworn in advisers to sustain service delivery.
It could be recalled that last Sunday, Niger APC issued a press statement quoting governor Aliyu as saying that for the past seven years some Special Advisers never advised him.
Isreal added that only 2 advisers have returned since the immediate past cabinet reshuffle. He therefore insisted that the governor has removed the unproductive advisers and that the opposition spokesman only spoke without taking cognizance of actual facts on ground.
“It is very sad that the opposition allows itself to be misled by a self seeking individual only interested in profiting from cheap blackmail. It is a known fact that the Niger state governor has zero tolerance for unproductive members of the cabinet and he was only charging the newly swornp-in Special Advisers to work harder.”
“Now that the landing gears of the present administration has been engaged, it is general knowledge that some politicians may want to rest on their oars as it is in the case of past administrations but that is what the governor won’t tolerate.”
According to the statement “he has made it very clear to all that he is going to commission projects till May 29 and that would be possible only when those in government are proactive, productive and people oriented”.
He then insisted that the governor is a leader who does not believe in failure and the best way to go about it is to insist on raising the bar for whoever is brought into the administration.
The spokesman therefore concluded that the blackmail approach of the APC has only blindfolded the spokesman of the party to the extent that he comments on issues he does not have grasp.
