Six Katsina state governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have warned that the party is set to lose the state to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
However, the Katsina state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema, yesterday assured that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in firm control of the political lever in the state, saying the party would win the 2015 governorship election in Katsina.
The six governorship aspirants of the PDP had in a petition they sent to the Acting National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, in Abuja, yesterday, accused the governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema, of planning to impose Musa Nashuni as the governorship candidate of the party.
The aggrieved aspirants are Sen. Ibrahim Ida, Alhaji Tukur Jikamshi, Gide Yar’Adua, Ahmed Yar’Adua, Kabiru Barkiya and Mohammed Khalil.
In their petition, they said the governor called a cabinet meeting where he announced to those in attendance that he had endorsed Nashuni as his successor.
The petition which was read to journalists on behalf of the group by Ida said, “On Tuesday, October 28, 2014, the state governor convened a meeting of his cabinet and personal aides, during which he announced that an anointed candidate, in the person of Musa Nashuni, a commissioner in the cabinet, is to be the party’s governorship candidate in the coming 2015 general elections.
“The said Nashuni is a stranger to Katsina State politics, who was brought into the state government purely on the basis of his personal relationship with the state governor.
“Although, he was a member of the State Executive Council, he has never identified with any PDP activities in the state.
“The said anointed candidate is not only a stranger in the political environment of the state but is also unpopular even in his immediate constituency.
Meanwhile, the governor, while reacting to the petition submitted to the National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Mu’azu, assured that PDP is in charge of Katsina state.
