The Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced subtle moves to lobby state chairmen and other stakeholders for tenure extension, even as the Forum of State chairmen passed a vote of confidence on the Mai Mala Buni led caretaker committee of the party.
This indication emerged yesterday during a closed door meeting between the caretaker members and the Forum of State chairmen, where they described the leadership of the party as a good thing that must be continued.
Confirmation this speculations, the APC chairman in Delta State, Prophet Jones Ode Erue, when asked on the rumour about tenure extension for caretaker committee said nothing was wrong if such is granted.
He said: “What is wrong for a good thing to be sustained or support a good thing to stay. Call it rumour or real, we are in support of the committee and in support of the unity of our party. Anything that will bring unity to our party we are in support of it one hundred percent.”
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the APC chairmen Forum, Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, who is also the chairman of APC in Borno state, moved a motion passing vote of confidence on the Buni led caretaker committee of the party, which was decided by the Benue State APC chairman, Abba Yaro.
He said “We are pleased and proud of what they have achieved so far and have assured the Committee of the support of the entire APC Membership across the country. Of specific note is that the party is getting more united, with more people joining and the last weekend success in Ondo State is a reflection of its successes.
“Equally, the plans for new membership registration, in accordance with section 9.4 of our Party Constitution, which provides that a register of members shall be compiled and maintained at the Ward level has met with the approval of Party Members across the country.
“Our attention has been drawn to Social Media stories, allegedly giving an Ultimatum to the CTC. by a group calling themselves “Concerned All Progressives Congress Members”.
“This is hitherto, an unknown group in the APC and wonder if they are actually ”concerned”, as their name suggests. The APC Chairmen unanimously condemn any attempt to distract efforts of the Caretaker Committee from the commendable work they have been doing.
“The APC has recognizable processes through which members can lodge any legitimate grievance(s). Shadowy Groups, with questionable agenda cannot claim any concern for the party.”
Addressing the forum earlier, the chairman of the APC caretaker committee, said “The APC CECPC, having taken over the management of the party’s affairs in the circumstances which you are familiar with a few months ago, has taken and implemented a number of open door policies to revamp and improve the lots of the party both internally and with respect to the party’s integrity and acceptance nationally.
“Consequently, we have recorded a number of positive results, which include the resolution of several internal disputes that were menacing in several state chapters of the Party.
“These much and as the anchor of the Committee’s modus-Operandi, we have made the decisions and have effected procedures that among several other, have created a level playing ground for all members of the party, inclusive of state chapters to run affairs of the party in their domain without unnecessary and destructive interference from external interests, for as long as the laws and regulations of the Party are duly abided by.
“This has consequently ushered in a much needed regime of internal democracy within the party as was obvious in the handling of the various primary elections that were coordinated in the last few months by CECPC; and the manner of the conduct of the recent Ondo state election that the party won.
“The CECPC has embarked on massive conflict resolution in the party across the 36 states and FCT. We have also been able to reach a compromise that demands the withdrawal of all internal litigations against the party, to allow for internal resolutions and settlement of disputes.
“This alone is a huge positive that would not have been possible without your full support and collaboration as party chairmen across the states of the federation. The CECPC, however, will still plead with you to use the goodwill of your offices to ensure the full withdrawal of such litigations that may still remain within your domain before the next NEC meeting of the party.
“You may however reach out to my office, in writing, if need be for assistance such matters that may be beyond your powers – as it is a part of the consensus building process to restore our party to the path of glory.
“The CECPC will also wish to state categorically that the party and its management belong to all of us. The door of the National Secretariat and that of the chairman CECPC, is always open to all our State Chairmen and all members of our great party, the APC”, he said.
