Anxiety in Yola over arms cache discovery

From Umar Dankano, Yola

The people of the ancient town of Yola were thrown into confusion following the discovery of 102 live ammunitions and two guns tucked in the perimeter fence of Damare Secondary School, Yola South local government Area of Adamawa State.

The development has led to anxiety among residents who said they sleep with their two eyes open due to the intensification of armed robbery in Yola and environs in recent times.

Eye witness account has it that, the weapons were discovered by children who were playing around the area yesterday when a ‘good Samaritan’ raised alarm over the discovery.

“Some children who are playing around the area spotted the ammunitions tucked deeply inside the block holes and quickly alerted the public.

“When residents observed that they were live ammunitions, they called the police who came and demolished the fence leading to the discovery of large number of live ammunitions and guns,” the source said.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Police Force, Adamawa Command Superintendent of Police Mohammed Ibrahim confirmed the development.

“Some children playing around the Damare Secondary School were behind the discovery.

“When they sighted the weapons, they alerted the public who further informed the police that carried out the search for the weapons and in the process discovered 102 live ammunitions alongside two guns”.

He said the weapons might have been kept there by fleeing criminals just as he said so far no arrest has been made in connection to the weapons discovery.
